Nusa Lembongan is the smallest and easiest of the three Nusa islands, about 30 minutes by fast boat from Sanur. Where Penida is big, rough and demanding, Lembongan is roughly eight square kilometres with decent roads — you can see the whole island in a day on a bicycle or scooter without any of the white-knuckle driving that Penida requires.
The island splits into a few distinct pieces. Mushroom Bay and Jungutbatu are the two main beaches, both with calm swimming and a line of restaurants. Devil's Tear on the west coast is the highlight: a rocky point where swell funnels into a blowhole and erupts upward, best in the late afternoon with a decent swell running. Dream Beach next to it looks inviting and has genuinely dangerous currents — look, do not swim.
The north-east is mangrove forest, punted through by small boats for an hour at very low cost. A narrow yellow suspension bridge, pedestrians and scooters only, connects Lembongan to Nusa Ceningan and its Blue Lagoon.
Lembongan works well as the relaxed half of a Nusa trip, with a day crossing to Penida for the Kelingking viewpoint.
