Nusa Ceningan
Nusa Ceningan is the smallest of the three Nusa islands, wedged between Lembongan and Penida, and it is connected to Nusa Lembongan by a narrow yellow suspension bridge that carries pedestrians and scooters only.
It is genuinely tiny — a few square kilometres — and most people see it in half a day from Lembongan rather than staying.
The headline sight is the Blue Lagoon, a narrow inlet of extraordinarily blue water enclosed by low limestone cliffs. There is a cliff-jump platform above it, popular with a certain kind of visitor; the water below is deep but the surge moves, and people have been hurt here. Watch a few jumps and the conditions before deciding, and note that there is no medical facility on the island.
The Secret Point area on the south-west has a small beach and a surf break, and the coastal track along the southern cliffs gives long views across to Penida.
Most of the island's interior is given over to seaweed farming, laid out in grids in the shallow channels and dried on racks along the roads. It has been the local economy here for decades, and it is a more interesting sight than it sounds — the channel between Ceningan and Lembongan turns into a chequerboard at low tide.
The roads are narrow and in places steep, and the bridge is single-file.
