Sanur
Sanur is on Bali's east coast, which gives it two things the famous west-coast resorts do not have: calm water and sunrise.
A reef runs offshore along the whole beachfront, absorbing the swell and leaving a shallow, flat lagoon behind it. That makes Sanur the most reliable swimming beach in southern Bali and the obvious choice for families with small children or anyone who does not want to think about rip currents. Because it faces east, the show here is at dawn — the sun comes up out of the sea, often with Mount Agung visible to the north.
A paved beach path runs roughly 5 km along the shore, past hotels, warungs and fishing boats, and is genuinely pleasant to walk or cycle. Bicycles are everywhere and rent for very little.
Sanur is Bali's oldest resort area and skews older and quieter than Seminyak or Canggu. It has good restaurants without the scene, a decent art museum in the Museum Le Mayeur, and essentially no nightlife.
Practically, it is the main departure point for the Nusa islands — fast boats to Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan leave from the beach and the newer harbour throughout the morning. It is about 30 minutes from the airport and around an hour from Ubud.

- Get up for sunrise. Sanur faces east and the dawn, often with Mount Agung on the skyline, is the local highlight.
- Rent a bicycle for the 5 km beach path; it is flat, paved and traffic-free.
- Boats to Nusa Penida and Lembongan leave from here in the morning — book the earliest sailing for the calmest crossing.
- Low tide exposes the reef flat and swimming gets shallow; check the tide if a proper swim matters.
- Expect very little nightlife. Sanur closes early by Bali standards.
