Lombok Airport Transfers: Getting from LOP to Anywhere

Lombok International Airport (LOP) sits at Praya, in the middle of the south of the island, and its location is the single most useful thing to understand when planning a trip here. It is 20 minutes from Kuta and two and a half hours from the Gili ferry port — which is why where you sleep on your first night matters more in Lombok than in most places.

Here are the real drive times and the sensible option for each.

Drive times from LOP

These are realistic door-to-door times in normal traffic, not optimistic map estimates.

The pattern is clear: the south is close, the north is not. Anything north of Mataram is a serious drive, and Senaru is effectively half a day from the airport.

Your options

Pre-booked transfer

A driver waiting in arrivals with your name. Fixed price agreed in advance, no negotiation after a long flight, and the driver knows where your hotel actually is — which matters in Kuta, where many guesthouses are down unmarked lanes.

This is the sane default for a first arrival, and essential for anything north.

Airport taxi counter

There is an official taxi counter inside the terminal with fixed prices by zone. Perfectly reliable, no haggling, and a good fallback if you have not booked.

Avoid anyone who approaches you before the counter.

Grab and Gojek

Ride-hailing works at the airport and is usually the cheapest option for the short run to Kuta. Two caveats: pickup arrangements at airports change periodically and drivers sometimes ask you to meet them away from the terminal door, and coverage collapses once you leave the south-west — do not plan on getting a Grab back from Senaru.

Hotel shuttle

Many Kuta and Senggigi properties will arrange a pickup. Often priced similarly to a private transfer, with the advantage that the hotel is accountable if it goes wrong.

Going straight to the Gilis

This is the transfer people underestimate. Airport to Bangsal is 2 to 2.5 hours, then a boat crossing of 15 to 45 minutes, then walking or a cart to your accommodation.

If you land in the afternoon, you are arriving on the islands after dark. Public boats stop in the late afternoon, and a private charter after that costs several times as much.

Two sensible fixes: land in the morning, or spend your first night in Kuta or Senggigi and cross the next day. Our Gili transfer guide covers the harbour itself, which has its own reputation.

Departure day

Work backwards and add slack.

• From Kuta: 20 minutes, so leave two hours before your flight.
• From Senggigi: 1.5 hours plus buffer.
• From the Gilis: allow a full three hours — boat, road, check-in. Crossings are weather-dependent and there is no later option if one is cancelled.
• From Senaru or Sembalun: effectively a half-day. Do not fly out the same morning you finish a Rinjani trek.

Practical arrival notes

Get cash at the airport. There are ATMs in the terminal, and they are more reliable than what you will find in Kuta or on the Gilis.

Buy a SIM at the airport if you want one. Coverage is good across the south and west, patchier in the north-east.
